Beaudesert trainer Doug Duryea has credited his recent purple patch of form with the rejuvenated fibre/sand track at the venue.

Duryea continued his recent winning run with Jungle Blaze saluting on Beaudesert Cup Day last Saturday in the Colts, Geldings and Entries Class 1 Plate (1100m).

The victory extended Duryea’s recent record to three winners from his past four starters – an impressive strike rate given he has only four horses in work currently.

Duryea, who has trained at the facility on and off for 25 years, said the results were directly linked to the new 1300m fibre/sand track which has recently been upgraded.

The new track is part of a number of upgrades the facility has received over the past 18 months through the partnership with the Gold Coast Turf Club and with the help of funding from Racing Queensland.

“The new training track is just fantastic, unbelievable,” he said.

“It’s the best surface we’ve ever worked on. You can get a horse to the races without having to rely solely on the grass.”

Jungle Blaze, a former Hong Kong galloper, has made a strong start to his career with the Duryea stable with two wins and a third placing from three starts.

Duryea has also notched a recent win with Pivotal Motion, who won at Beaudesert on June 21.

The winning run for the Duryea stable has helped lift the family’s spirits after what has been a difficult past 12 months.

Doug’s daughter Darleen Duryea suffered serious spinal injuries and bleeding on the brain after a trackwork fall in June last year.

In further good news for the family, Doug reported that Darleen had been making positive progress in her daily rehabilitation.
