Track Info

Our resident tipster Gibbo has run over some track information and these are his opinions on the starting points *The GCTC track is 1885m in circumference with a 400m straight.

*1000m:

The new chute was designed to give every horse their chance with the renovated home turn now fully cambered to give horses drawn inside and outside and even chance. Between the 600-400m there’s a slight rise that gives riders a chance to sit up before making their run. As such three wide with cover will still give horses every opportunity in the run.

*1100m:

Another starting point where gates are very important (obviously like most, more so with big fields). Only around 150m to the first corner and then not a long run before you start making the corner to the home straight. Usually, a big advantage to draw well.

*1200m:

Starts in a chute halfway down the back straight. Only a couple of hundred meters to the first corner. If you have good speed you may be able to cross them and hold them up after that first corner. If you are wide it’s a tough run and very hard to win. In the big fields like Magic Millions Raceday, you’d love to land one off the fence but three wide with cover isn’t the worst scenario.

*1300m and 1400m:

Both pretty forgiving as they start in the back straight. The 1400m starting point is about the best on the course with 400m or so to the first turn.

*1800m:

Hidden in a chute at the north end of the course you only have a short run to the first corner. Once you get around that you have a 400m back straight so plenty of time to work it all out. Again you’d rather draw well in the big fields as we will see in THE TAB WAVE but it’s not the end of the world if you draw out in the smaller fields.

*2200-2400m:

Very fair starting points with the entire home straight to find a spot.
