King of the Coast jockey retiring after 10 premiership wins

Dan Griffin, known affectionately as ‘The King of the Coast’, will ride for the last time this Saturday at home track GCTC just weeks before he’s officially crowned a record 10-time premiership winner. Griffin has ridden more than 1100 winners in his career and more than half of these have been at the Gold Coast Turf Club proving to be the punter’s pal.

These premierships have been no mean feat for this well-beloved jockey as he battled through multiple injuries. The 39-year-old was recently delivered the brutal news that years of wasting to make weight had been severely detrimental to his health and could have dire consequences. Griffin was left with no option other than to pull the pin on his riding career.
