HEINEKEN GOLD COAST CUP RACEDAY IS FIRST PAST THE POST FOR QUEENSLAND’S WINTER RACING CARNIVAL
The Gold Coast’s premier racing event, the Heineken Gold Coast Cup will launch the TAB Queensland Winter Racing Carnival 2021 at Aquis Park on Saturday 8 May with nine heart-stopping races offering more than $1million in prize money.
The Heineken Gold Coast Cup is one of the marquee events of the TAB Queensland Winter Racing Carnival, attracting a stellar lineup of interstate talent for a spectacular and prestigious program of live, on-track races.
Aquis Park CEO Steve Lines said the high calibre of interstate talent at the raceday will include jockey William Pike, aka the ‘Wizard of the West’, in his first time on the Gold Coast.
“With nine renowned races throughout the day, the Heineken Gold Coast Cup 2021 will showcase the best trainers and thoroughbreds from across Australia, all racing for their share of the prize money,” Mr Lines said.
The esteemed event ups the stakes in 2021 with the illustrious Group 2 A.D. Hollindale Stakes, which will take pole position as the weight-for-age thoroughbreds race for the $500,000 purse.
Previously won by group-winning champions Life Less Ordinary (2019), Might and Power (1998) and two-time winners Rough Habit (1991, 1992) and Shogun Lodge (2000, 2001), Mr Lines said the A.D. Hollindale Stakes attracts leading trainers and horses from across the country.
Other time-honoured and prestigious races include Brandons Gold Coast Guineas, Johnnie Walker Gold Coast Bracelet and the TAB Ken Russell Memorial Classic, while the winning trainer of the Gold Coast MG Bat Out of Hell 900m sprint will drive away with a brand-new MG 3.
Off the track, the Heineken Gold Coast Cup Raceday will play host to unmissable stylish events and new additions such as the Event Centre’s House of Heineken and inaugural Fashion Luncheon showcasing this year’s Light Years Skin Studio Fashions on the Field competition, plus pop-up bars, food trucks and Instagrammable photo activations on track.
With a stellar lineup of Raceday Hosts Candice Dixon, Emily Jade O’Keeffe, Kimberly Gardner (FOTF judge) and Jake Ellis and exclusive Gold Coast Turf Club raceday dining packages from cocktail-style soirees to fashionable sit-down affairs, this year’s Heineken Gold Coast Cup aims to bring the raceday razzle-dazzle back to the Gold Coast’s premier racing event.
Aquis Park Racing Manager Ian Brown said: “After the decision to postpone the scheduling of Winter Carnival including the Gold Coast Cup in 2020 due to COVID-19, this year’s raceday promises to be our most exciting edition with more than $1million in prize money on offer and providing guests with the opportunity to see Australia’s leading jockeys, trainers and horses in action.”
Mr Lines added that in the leadup to the Heineken Gold Coast Cup, all Aquis Park events would continue to adhere to COVID Safe Plans and follow Queensland Health advice to ensure the health and wellbeing of members, guests, staff and racing participants.
“We are committed to hosting a safe Winter Racing Carnival and hope current restrictions will be lifted by mid-April and all borders remain open to ensure everyone can enjoy the season,” he said.
